Letter from Benjie - Liezl's condition

December 2009

From Benjie.....

For the bad news, Liezl is diagnose with lung cancer and it has already spread in other parts of her body. Maybe that’s why she is complaining of a backpain in her butt. The biopsy’s diagnosis result is METASTATIC ADENOCARCINOMA. Our doctor told me that it is already in stage 3 or 4, but they are more inclined that it is already Stage 4. Since it is already spread out, surgery is already out of the question. The treatment they are suggesting is chemotheraphy and cobalt radiation for her backpains.

Liezl is scheduled for a bonescan this Monday. She will also undergo other test, like ctscan and ultrasound. She will be admitted as an inpatient for two to three days in St. Lukes Hospital. Hopefully, we will spend Christmas at home.

For the goodnews, Liezl has courageously faced her sickness headstrong. We are determined to fight cancer not sitting down. We have to be strong for our children. Our faith in God has even grow stronger. We trust all these to his divine providence. While waiting for the medical results, Liezl and I looked for alternative cure to cancer. Right now we are trying the naturopathic medication recommended by Dr. Tam Mateo, the first naturophathic doctor in the Philippines. To see more about Dr. Tam you can check their website at http://www.drtam.org/. Dr. Tam’s main advocacy is vegetarian diet combined with food supplements, vitamins, and exercise. Liezl, right now, is on a strict vegetarian diet, only fruits and vegetables. I, on my part, are also doing the same thing so she has a companion in this new lifestyle she is entering. We have been a vegetarian for almost two weeks now. Liezl is very disciplined and determined in becoming a vegetarian. I hope I can also keep up.

Aside from the vegetarian diet, which is very important, herbal food supplements and enzymes therapy is also part of the nutritional treatment. Liezl is undergoing a 20-day protocol that was suggested to her. Liezl has been taking the herbal food supplements for almost two weeks now. So far, the pain she has been experiencing at her back has been manageable. There is still pain, but it is more of an irritation rather than real pain. She is still strong physically.

Our problem is, the food supplements and vitamins are quite expensive. Our salary can not keep up with the expenses for the medication and for our regular expenses. I would like to ask for your help so we can buy all the medication that Liezl will be needing.
